[Book Blast] Love on the Risky Side by Mariah Ankenman

Love on the Risky Side
by Mariah Ankenman

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Falsely accused of the murder of her best friend, Kayla Jenkins is on the run for her life. She ends up lost in dark, snowy woods off some backcountry road in the middle of nowhere. Frightened and colder than she’s ever been in her life, she almost thinks she’s hallucinating when a warrior on a white steed saves her.

In all his years as the sheriff of Peak Town, Colorado, Jake Ryder has never come across a half-frozen woman alone in the woods. She’s terrified…and lying to him, yet something about her calls to him on a primal level.

Even with her trust of law enforcement lower than the harsh temperature, Kayla finds it difficult to keep her secrets hidden from the kind and far too handsome sheriff. But as her faith in Ryder grows, she not only risks the real murderer finding her, but losing the one thing she has searched for her whole life and only just found…love.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the shape came closer, she realized it wasn’t Bigfoot—because he doesn’t exist—she reminded herself. It was also not a bear. Her vision finally focused on a large gray horse. Not only a horse, but a rider, too.
The clouds in the night sky dissipated, allowing the moonlight to shine down into the woods. Kayla’s heart skipped a beat as the two towered over her.
The man sat upon the horse like a warrior of olden days. Long, dark hair fluttered about his face in the wind—sharp, high cheekbones, a smooth, square jawline, and thick, dark brows pressed down over a pair of deep, warm brown eyes.
“Hello.”
His voice rumbled over her like a warm blanket. What she wouldn’t give for a warm blanket right now.
“Do you need some help?”
She hesitated at his question, staring into his eyes. They looked so kind and trusting, but a man’s eyes had deceived her before. Until two days ago, David’s eyes had always been normal; sure, the guy had given off the jerkwad vibe at times, but she never suspected the evil hidden behind those eyes. Was this man the same? Could she trust those eyes?
Did she really have a choice?
No. She had no idea where she was and was literally freezing. Yes, she needed help. The only question, would this man be her salvation…or her downfall?
[Virtual Tour] Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon #Review #Giveaway
Don’t trust lust at first sight.
EYE CANDY
Real Love #1
Jessica Lemmon
Releasing July 25th, 2017
Loveswept
Don’t trust lust at first sight. One woman chooses reality over fantasy in this friends-to-lovers romance.
Jacqueline:
As an adult woman—and the vice president of a marketing firm—I shouldn’t be waiting by my office window to ogle the mystery man who jogs by every morning at 11:45. Sure, he’s a gorgeous, perfect specimen of the human race, but I can’t bring myself to hit on a total stranger. However, my best friend–slash–colleague Vince Carson thinks I should do more than talk to the guy. In fact, he’s borderline obsessive about “getting me laid.” (His words.) But the more time we spend together, the more it’s clear: The one I’m falling for is Vince.
Vince: Jackie Butler’s got it bad for some pompous, over-pumped A-hole who struts his stuff past her window. That doesn’t bother me. I know she deserves nice things. What does bother me is that she friend-zoned me big-time last year, so I can’t ask her out myself. But what if I set her up with Mr. Steroids? Then, when he breaks her heart, I can swoop in and save her like the nice guy I am. Everything’s going according to plan . . . until we share a ridiculously epic kiss. And suddenly anything is possible.
A former job-hopper, Jessica Lemmon resides in Ohio with her husband and rescue dog. She holds a degree in graphic design currently gathering dust in an impressive frame. When she’s not writing super-sexy heroes, she can be found cooking, drawing, drinking coffee (okay, wine), and eating potato chips. She firmly believes God gifts us with talents for a purpose, and with His help, you can create the life you want.
Jessica is a social media junkie who loves to hear from readers. You can learn more at her website.
I'm a sucker for friends-to-lovers story, so I jumped at the chance to review Eye Candy. Not only that, but the whole premise of seeing a sexy jogger, at the same time every day, and to drool over him, touched too close to home. I admit to drooling over passerby, but don't tell my hubby.
Jessica Lemmon has done it again! She's made me laugh, snort, cry all at the same time. She has such a knack for adding in all those emotions and making you feel a part of the story. The main characters, Jaqueline and Vince are real-life people, who drag me in and I missed them when I finished.
 I love how Jackie is a go-getter, a professional and confident. Vince is also a go-getter, co-VP of the company, and a great friend. What holds their friendship together is that they were both heartbroken by past marriages, and they become best friends, getting through the trials of divorce. What neither of them expected, or maybe they did, was the need to become more than friends. Once Jackie hooks up with mysterious jogger-man, who Vince lovingly calls Jaundice, Vince realizes he does want a woman in his life and the woman he wants is right in front of him. And let me tell you, it gets HOT! **fans self**
Favorite lines:
"Lesson number whatever-we're on," I say, my voice tight with lust. "Lingerie is sexy, but you naked is sexier."
"Always, Butler. Always say the guy's name. Especially when you come."
"Do you prefer Carson? Or Vince?"
"I prefer 'Don't ever stop, Vince' as well as 'I've never seen anything so massive in my life.'" That earns me another rich laugh.
We're friends. We're lovers. And we're together. What more do I need to know?
Eye Candy, without a doubt, deserves a 5 WINK rating! I love to laugh, I love to swear (you know, during those dark moments), I love to read the hot and sexy. Eye Candy makes me want to do all that and more. In fact, so ready to meet Davis, Vince's bestie, in Arm Candy next. I am hooked!
Blurb:
Amanda Larson is dedicated to her job and doesn't want to make time for anything else. Until she runs into Jake Edwards. He used to be the cute boy next door; now he's a sexy, big shot lawyer.
Jake Edwards isn't interested in commitment. He's successful, sexy, and single--and that's how he likes it. When he reconnects with Amanda, Jake realizes he might have to rethink his philosophy on the carefree, bachelor lifestyle.
But, is it too late for them? Or can he convince her that he's ready to give her his heart?
SNIPPET:
Jake leaned in closer, running his hand down her arm. “Know what I’m thinking?”
Amanda fiddled with her coaster and smiled at him. “I’m not sure I want to know.”
“I’m thinking we should spend a lot more time together.” He reached over and held her chin. “It’s been way too long.”
Amanda licked her lips, and damn it, it actually turned him on. Sweet little Mandy Larson wasn’t so sweet anymore. She was driving him crazy.
She moved closer bridging distance. “Why wait? There’s no time like the present.”
“Exactly.” He drank the last of his beer as the waiter returned with her martini sans olive.
Jake leaned on the table with his elbows, folded his hands together and studied her.
“Look at you, drinking a martini, living the life in New York City.” He examined her from head to toe. “A sexy skirt. Tall boots.” He ran a finger down her cheek. “A beautiful face.”
Amanda hiccupped and put down her glass. “Now, wait a minute. I know it’s been a while, but some things never change, including you.” She wagged her finger at him. “No smooth talking with me. Don’t forget I used to know you better than anybody.”
Because his fingers actually ached with the need to touch her again, he reached over and held her hand. “Yeah, but things have changed, Mandy. We’re two different people now, and I can’t wait to get to know who you are now.”
“The Waves of Love Can Make You Sick”
A Reckless Series Spin-off
A Romantic Comedy
Memphis Love knows three things.
Money
Sex
Women
As long as it has a pond for him to dip his pole into, he’s game, and he doesn’t stick to just one pond for his fishing trips either.
The small, beach town he lives in doesn’t offer much for job opportunities or at least lucrative ones. He relies on his body, the pole, and stage. Oh, and the after hour clients.
Iris, his best after hour customer, takes him on a yearly cruise with her friends. He’s there for one purpose and one purpose only…their boy toy.
Memphis is no fool. A two week, all paid cruise to soak up the sun and sights is a no brainer. Only thing is he didn’t expect a little ray of sunshine on the ship this year. Raylan Moore has the power to rattle everything he once believed.
The doctor is in; he’s willing, able and ready to please. Dr. Love has the cure to your Love Sick (offset in a different font) blues, only this time maybe he’s the one needing the healing.
EXCERPT:
Memphis Love
I lie back in the lounger, finding the perfect snooze zone again while soaking up the rays. Then I hear it. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Every single inch of my body is on alert. I sit right back up, pulling down my Ray-Bans on the bridge of my nose.
I smile.
I smile like the victor of Titty Mania 2017. Give me the belt, bitches. Hand it right over. She didn’t fall into my lap this time. Nope, it’s so much sweeter because I spot her before she attacks.
Raylan. She's standing at the bar fifty feet away. Her head is thrown back in laughter. A damn fruity drink is in her hand. Her girls at her side are making her laugh at something. It’s a lingering suspicion, but I know Raylan is never this carefree. The edge of a hot tub is feet away. It’s not her clumsiness I’m studying, but what she’s wearing.
Or should I say what she’s not wearing? That scrappy piece is a poor excuse for a damn top. I know what’s under it or at least half of it. She has one of those fancy, see through skirts tied around her lower half. The knot is settled nicely on her hip.
It would take one nip of my teeth to undo it. Fuck, I wouldn’t have to take her bikini bottoms off to taste her. I bet she’s as sweet as those damn drinks she loves.
“Daddy, antennae.”
I peer over to the voice ready to glare at the bastard interrupting my daydream, hot shower research supplying spank bank material. But it’s a little boy pointing right at me.
“That man has Wi-Fi.”
I squint my eyes trying to put together what the hell is going. He begins racing over to me chanting Wi-Fi.
I peer down to see if the little bandit is planning to nab any of my personal items. Kids these damn days are too smart for their good. It’s then I see the Wi-Fi. Spandex and a raging cock are not the right combination and a clear signal for Wi-Fi according to young children. The size of my engorged dick could guide astronauts home from Jupiter.
What has this clumsy girl done to me? I’m a global threat at this point. Draining my remaining drink, I find the perfect excuse to stride right over to the bar where the group of girls are still chatting it up. Hell, Raylan doesn’t notice all the men checking her out. Her friend, Brenna, has at least double Ds and I’d bet my left nut they’re fake. She’s the type the majority of men magnetize to, but not with Raylan next to her. Josi, I’m pretty sure that was her name, is also a knockout with fake assets and plump injected lips. But it’s none of that which attracts me.
The fuck? I don’t remember any female names, and here I’m studying Raylan and her friends like a first rate stalker. I saddle up to the bar, blocking the group of dickheads drinking in Raylan. My size and width get the job done.
“Another, hun?” the busty bartender asks.
I keep up the smolder showdown giving it to her smooth. “Please, darlin’.”
That does the trick. I hear one of the girls squeal. I know it’s not Raylan but not sure which one it is.
“Raylan.” I hear a loud skin slap, but I don’t look, pretending to eye down the bartender. “It’s him.”
Another voice joins. “It is Raylan. Holy shit, he’s on the cruise.”
Hook, line, and sinker.
“Who?” Raylan asks. Hell, her voice erects the Eiffel Tower in a matter of seconds.
“I’d say nipple gate 2017, but it was more of Tit Show Gate 2017 live and in action.”
There’s an audible gasp. I can feel her gaze soaking up the front view leaning on the bar. My elbow is propped on the smooth wood and my face is in the direction of the back shelf with my legs crossed at the ankles. Most men would flex their muscles right now, putting them in the douche category permanently. I remain calm, playing to ignore the conversation.
I’m betting today they’ve had a few to drink since their voices are not a whisper when they think they are.
“You were right about his wiener. It was not your imagination.”
I stifle laughter at that one.
“Don’t say wiener; we aren’t ten years old anymore.”
“I told you it was huge.”
And there’s my cue. I stand slowly, paying attention to each move of my body, grab my drink from the bar, and make eye contact. They react as suspected, ducking their heads and blushing like fools.
Excerpt
“Technically, I don’t think you’re supposed to see the bride before the wedding.”
“I think that’s about the dress, and you are still delightfully undressed.” His voice held a growl as he shut the door tight and prowled towards her.
Standing there in Lauren’s tiny skirt, the stockings and garter belt, and the corset — she had to admit the heat in his gaze steadied the lingering nerves in her stomach. Making all of that energy simmer into something much more pleasant, which settled much lower. “I still think it’s supposedly bad luck.”
“Hmm…” James made a noise low in his throat as he pulled her into a kiss, one hand at the back of her head, the other pressing her waist against him. The first sweep of his tongue against hers made her remember just how little air she had with the corset tightened, and she finally understand how women used to swoon so easily. He could have knocked her over with a feather if he had tried.
Instead, he held her against him. The firm, lean muscle of his chest, his strong arm wrapped around her back so that she was exactly where he wanted her. Finally, James nipped her bottom lip and lifted his head.
“I have been dreaming about doing that since we got separated this morning.”
“I—” Thalia had to clear her throat, and her head, before she could speak. “I’m glad you did that in here, and not during the wedding.”
His quiet laugh sent butterflies swirling in her stomach, which were only amplified by the thumb he dragged across her lip. “Worried about scandalizing the guests?”
Catching his hand, Thalia groaned. “Mostly worried about embarrassing your parents.”
“They’d survive.”
“That is not comforting.” She pouted, and he smiled at her. A warmer, more comfortable version of the first smile he’d ever given her. The one that had made her imagine him as some male model on a yacht, but Marcus’ living room seemed blissfully far away in this perfect moment.
“Are you really still nervous about today? It’s a rather small guest list.”
“One hundred and twenty eight people is small?” Thalia laughed. “I have no idea what I’m doing.”
You've met almost everyone here, baby. Except for some obscure relatives of mine that will only be wondering how I nabbed a beautiful, kind, American yoga instructor for a wife.” His wicked grin actually made her smile, but despite the blush she still shook her head.
“Like they’d doubt you’re capable of that.”
“Oh, they'll be astonished. They think I never leave the office.” He grinned and leaned close enough to have his voice a sinful growl against the shell of her ear. “They think I'm positively boring.”
“Boring?” The word made a smile tug at her lips as he leaned back, smiling down at her again. James was anything but boring. He was her hero, her Master, her partner, her lover. He was the other half of her life, the weight on the other end of the scales that kept her balanced even when things felt out of control — and just like when they played, when he said he knew she was capable of something... she always was. “You are anything but boring, and I'll be okay, Master. I promise.”
“I know, pet. You’re the bravest woman I’ve ever met.” With that, he kissed her again. Warm, soft, sweet. His lips pressed against hers in an unspoken vow that made her stomach do little somersaults as she clutched at his crisp white shirt. When he lifted his mouth his eyes were that dark, bottle glass green that telegraphed his arousal better than anything. Well, better than anything except for the growing erection against her stomach. “How was that?”
“What?” she asked, confused.
“For the wedding, is it alright if I kiss you like that?” The wicked tilt to his lips had her laughing.
“That will be bloody perfect.”
With a loud laugh he picked her up at the waist and set her on the covered table behind her. “What have I told you about using British slang?”
“I think I’ve lived here long enough to get to use it.”
“Is that right?” he asked, an edge of humor creeping into his tone.
“Quite right,” Thalia replied in her best attempt at a British accent, and James groaned.
“Keep that up and I’ll spank you before I let you see the surprise I brought you.”
“Promise?” Just as her smile spread across her mouth, she saw his eyes flash with lust and that heady aura of dominance descended over him. An instant later she was flipped to her stomach on the table, Lauren’s skirt pushed up her back, and the first swat of his hand landed on her ass.
